16,150 service members were assaulted in 2009. A woman in the US Armed Forces, one of the most powerful and successful militaries in the world, is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by an enemy. Around 500,000 -that’s half a million- women have been sexually assaulted in the US Military to date.
That is disgusting, infuriating, and wrong. I support our troops, I even wanted to be in the Navy. But this is unacceptable.
Take action, help stand up for those who are afraid to stand up for themselves, those who are called liars and sluts for reporting their peers and superiors, those who have had their security and trust in others ripped away. Sign the petition to support new bills (the STOP Act and the Holley Lynn James Act). It takes less than a minute, and your signature could be the one that tips the scale and protects women from military sexual trauma (MST - yeah, it’s a real thing, just like PTSD). Even if you don’t want to sign, reblog and raise awareness.
TL;DR Sign the petition to protect women (and men) from sexual assault in the US Military. Our country is better than this, and we owe it to our soldiers to protect them as they protect us.
